ABOUT THE DRAWINGS

Shown in these portfolios are select recent drawings. The digital drawings are made using an Apple pencil in Procreate on an iPad. The oil pastel drawings are created on 6”x8” in heavyweight vellum paper.

When I discovered the app Procreate on the iPad I felt deeply satisfied when using to create abstract and gestural painterly work. The process mimics how I create in my physical studio. I can create in any setting, and marrying technology with this organic and intuitive process feels so cathartic after years of working in graphic deisgn.

The oil pastels drawings were inspired by oil sticks I use in my paintings, combined with a desire to make small work and studies. The oils have a beautiful softness and rough organic blend. I approach each drawing intuitively, and title them with numbers, for a more open interpretation.
