As an abstract painter, I make energetic and gestural work with acrylic paint, latex house paint, mixed media and found objects on canvas. My style of painting stems from my connection to the ambiguity and rawness of abstract expressionism, a passion for color and my love of paint as a medium.  As I approach the creation of my work with emotion, freedom and intention, I filter my subconscious decisions with knowledge from my formal education. I see the act of using both my intuition and learned practices in my artistic process as a metaphor: in taking the necessary risks during a painting’s creation there is a balance of harmony and chaos, just as in life itself. Much like geology or internet history, the visibility of layers in the work allow my paintings leave transparent evidence of the process of their creation.

In addition to traditional physical painting techniques, I have incorporated digital art into my practice. Using Procreate to make digital abstract paintings blends and blurs the line between physical and digital mediums. As a long time career graphic designer, I am used to being creative on a computer or device, which eased my comfort in starting to creating paintings digitally. Using my intuitive yet intentional approach to make the digital work is a cathartic contrast to a design work mindset, which always requires minute perfection in its execution.
